The Amalfi Coast, Italy
Twisting its way through 40 miles of cliff-edged Italian roads from Sorrento to Salerno in Southern Italy the Amalfi Coast road is one of Europe’s most iconic landscapes. The roads three most famous stops include Amalfi, Positano and Ravello which offer an array of beautiful views of the azure coast from the numerous cafes, restaurants and hotels along the way.
The West Cornwall Coast Road, UK
The West Cornwall Coast Road runs from St Ives to St Just for approximately 13 miles of the South West’s stunning scenery. Taking in tight turns, sweeping bends and short straights, flanked on one side by the West Cornwall Moors and the on the other the Atlantic coast it’s easy to see why the West Cornwall Coast Road is often described as Cornwall’s best driving road.
La Route des Grandes Alpes, France
Stretching for 440 miles through the French Alpes, starting at Lake Geneva and finishing at the Cóte d’Azur, La Route des Grandes Alpes takes in four national parks and 16 mountain passes. The wonderful mountain scenery and smooth sweeping corners make this a must for any driving enthusiast.
Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway
The Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway is not for the faint hearted. Featuring curvy bridges above raging seas, which often spill onto the road – this five mile stretch sometimes feels more like a rollercoaster ride than a road! The unbelievable scenery makes it almost impossible not to stop for a photo, thankfully there’s a few handy viewing areas along the way so you can get the perfect picture.
Col de Turini, France
Having featured in the Monte Carlo Rally and Tour de France this world renowned mountain road in the Alps is known for its hairpin turns. Raising to a height of 1,607 meters you’ll need to be fully focused as you tackle the 34 hairpin turns of the Col de Turini. Connecting the villages of Moulinet and La Bolléne-Vésubie and it’s easy to see why the Col de Turini is known as one of the world’s most picturesque drives.
Ring of Kerry, Ireland
Offering panoramic views, beaches and historic towns and villages the 125 mile driving loop that is the Ring of Kerry has a serious claim as Europe’s most beautiful drive. The Ring can become extremely busy during high season, so always aim for a spring or autumn visit to avoid the crowds.
TT Isle of Man
How could we have a list of best roads without including the world-famous Isle of Man TT? The current TT route is 37 miles of tight, twisting road where you’ll need all your concentration as the roads are said to drop off without warning. Where else can you drive a world-famous road rally course on public roads whilst taking in some of the most breath-taking scenery the British Isles has to offer?
